Decoding BNB Chain’s dApp Ecosystem: Events, Programs and BAB Stats (Pt.4)

Decoding BNB Chain’s dApp ecosystem is the fourth part of a report that explores BAB token statistics, BNB Chain network scaling and data storage upgrades, events and campaigns, and programs for builders, developers and Martians.

In the first part of Decoding BNB Chain’s dApp ecosystem, we took a look at the active addresses, transactions, fees, and verified smart contracts. In the second part, we explored the state of dApps on BNB Chain including dApps by TVL, the most used dApps on BNB Chain, dApp dominance, and dApp revenue and earnings. In part three, we uncovered key insights and statistics on risky dApps and smart contracts on BNB Chain.

2023 Saw the launch of opBNB (network scaling) and BNB Greenfield (data storage).
Access to grants and programs for developers, builders and Martians.
Over 777K BAB Tokens were minted from the time BAB launched in September 2022 to the end of June 2023.

Network Scaling and Data Storage

2023 Saw the launch of two core components of BNB Chain in opBNB and BNB Greenfield.

opBNB is a layer 2 scaling solution for BNB Chain powered by Optimism OP stack aimed at reducing fees and increasing capacity. 15 dApps have already launched on opBNB, with several others in the process of integrating opBNB. The first 15 dApps launching on opBNB include Pulsar Finance, DATS Project, PixelSwap, Cielo, RhinoFi, DeCommas, Gate, Alltoscan, DeFiLlama, zkLink, Krystal Wallet, BurgerCities, DexCheck, AltLayer, and BinarySwap.

BNB Greenfield is a blockchain and storage platform aimed at revolutionizing the data economy. With Greenfield, addresses can manage and create data and token assets, link data permissions, and access APIs and SDKs. The two BNB Chain Greenfield dApps on DappBay include GreenfieldScan and DCellar.

Builders, Developers and Martians

Builders and developers have access to several grants and programs designed to help grow dApps and projects on BNB Chain. Two of the most popular grants include the Builder Grant (for innovative ideas and dApps) and the Gas Grant (with up to $15,000 in monthly rewards for 3 months).

Programs such as the Kickstart Program (essential Web3 tools and services at a discount) and the Most Valuable Builder Accelerator Program (a biannual accelerator program for Web3 startups and dApps) continue to attract and support developers and builders on BNB Chain. The Martian Program, a popular volunteer program, enables new and established Web3 users, developers and enthusiasts to learn Web3 skills and participate in events.

Events and Campaigns in 2023

dApp events in 2023 saw Web3 users participating in several BNB Chain events and campaigns. The recently concluded opBNB: The Odyssey from Testnet to Mainnet saw over 183K users participating in the airdrop event and minting a Genesis NFT. The Ecosystem Catalyst Awards, another event concluded this year saw over 34.9K users participating in the event, voting for their favorite dApp, and claiming a 3-year anniversary NFT.

BAB Token

BAB or a Binance Account Bound Token is a non-transferrable token on BNB Chain and serves as identity credentials associated with a Web3 account that’s completed KYC verification. Users can use their BAB Token to access and participate in events and claim rewards. Making BAB Token a requirement to participate in an event also helps in filtering out bots and users trying to game a system.

Over 777K BAB Tokens were minted from the time BAB launched in September 2022 to the end of June 2023 according to data published by Dune Analytics. Some of the leading dApps used by BAB Token holders include PancakeSwap, Galxe, Quest3, XEN, SPACEID, Element Marketplace and Tiny World.

For example, in the recently concluded BNB Chain Ecosystem Catalyst Awards, Web3 users were required to mint a BAB token to participate in the campaign and vote for their favorite dApp.

Several dApps announced integrating BAB or utilizing BAB token for events, rewards, and NFTs.
